At Challenge Design, we were thrilled to embark on a unique challenge: crafting a monumental challenge coin that not only celebrates a distinguished career but also highlights a significant milestone. Working on the Giant Number Five coin, designed to honor Chief Warrant Officer Five (CWO5) Benny Brockington Jr., was an incredible opportunity for our team. This was an opportunity to create something bold, personal, and deeply reflective of CWO5 Brockington Jr.'s remarkable service in the Navy’s Supply Corps. From its striking size to the intricate details, this coin is a testament to a legacy of leadership, dedication, and excellence.

U.S. Navy Supply Corps

To truly appreciate the significance of Chief Warrant Officer Five Benny Brockington Jr.’s career, it’s important to understand the vital role of the Navy Supply Corps, the division that served as the foundation for his remarkable journey. The Navy Supply Corps plays an essential role in ensuring that every mission has the resources and logistics support it needs. I’ve always admired how the Supply Corps handles everything from procuring essential goods to managing critical supplies on and off the ship. These professionals are the backbone of operational readiness, working behind the scenes to deliver resources, whether it’s food, fuel, or equipment. Their attention to detail and dedication to support ensures that Sailors and Marines have what they need when they need it, allowing the Navy to operate smoothly across the globe.

Chief Warrant Officers

While the Navy Supply Corps ensures the success of every mission, it’s the expertise and leadership of individuals like Navy Chief Warrant Officers that bridge the gap between operational demands and execution, elevating the Navy’s capabilities to new heights. Navy Chief Warrant Officers bring unparalleled technical expertise to their roles, bridging the gap between enlisted personnel and senior leadership. Their specialized knowledge and years of experience enable them to provide invaluable mentorship and guidance to junior Sailors. I’ve always seen CWOs as the "go-to" people, whether it’s solving a complex problem or leading a technical team to success. Their dedication, coupled with their strong sense of duty, helps maintain the highest standards in their field, ultimately contributing to mission success.

CWO5 Rank

Within the ranks of Navy Chief Warrant Officers, achieving the title of CWO5 stands as a testament to extraordinary skill and dedication, a distinction that only the most accomplished individuals attain. Achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 5 (CWO5) is a pinnacle of service in the Navy, reserved for only the top five percent of warrant officers on active duty. This role at the W-5 paygrade signifies a career marked by dedication, leadership, and technical expertise. CWO5s are appointed to serve at the highest echelons, often advising senior officers and handling responsibilities of significant influence. Those who reach this level embody a rare blend of experience and knowledge, which has earned them respect across the Navy and positioned them as leaders in their fields.

ESWS Qualification

For many high-ranking officers, earning additional qualifications like the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignia further demonstrates their exceptional commitment to operational excellence—a hallmark of CWO5 Brockington Jr.’s career. The Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) qualification is a prestigious military achievement that highlights a Sailor’s high-level expertise in surface warfare and surface ship operations. This qualification isn’t handed out lightly; it requires rigorous training, hands-on experience, and a deep understanding of shipboard operations. For those who earn it, the ESWS insignia is a symbol of dedication and expertise that sets them apart and acknowledges their significant contribution to the Navy’s surface force.
