Jared Kushner is a prominent American businessman, investor, and political figure best known for his role as a senior advisor to his father-in-law, President Donald Trump, during his administration from 2017 to 2021. Born into a wealthy real estate family, Kushner took over his family's business, Kushner Companies, and expanded its portfolio before entering the political arena. As part of the Trump administration, Kushner was tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, including overseeing Middle East peace efforts, criminal justice reform, and the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing scrutiny over his lack of prior political experience, Kushner played a central role in shaping key policies and diplomatic initiatives, earning both praise and criticism for his influence and approach.
Before stepping into the political spotlight, Jared Kushner made his mark as a dynamic force in both real estate and media. At just 25, he purchased The New York Observer, breathing new life into the publication while steering it through the digital revolution. Simultaneously, he led Kushner Companies through one of the most ambitious real estate deals in New York’s history, acquiring the iconic 666 Fifth Avenue for $1.8 billion. These bold moves demonstrated Kushner's willingness to take risks and reshape industries, foreshadowing the strategic mindset he later brought to the White House.
Once inside the halls of the White House, Kushner took on the pivotal role of Senior Advisor to President Trump. A Senior Advisor provides direct counsel to the president on crucial matters such as policy, strategy, and political affairs. It’s a position that wields considerable influence, as the advisor is often a close confidant to the president, navigating complex challenges and ensuring the administration's priorities are executed. Reflecting on his role, Kushner once said, “I’m not here to be someone in the history books who talks about my efforts and doesn’t actually do anything. I’ve been working on accomplishing things that can make people’s lives better." This pragmatic approach underscored his work throughout the administration.
As Senior Advisor, Kushner played a key role in two significant achievements. First, he was the architect of the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations, including the UAE and Bahrain—an accomplishment hailed as a historic step toward peace in the Middle East. Benjamin Netanyahu, former Prime Minister of Israel, expressed his gratitude for Kushner's efforts, stating, "Jared Kushner deserves a special thanks for his relentless efforts to advance peace, stability, and prosperity in our region. His vision and determination have made historic breakthroughs possible." Kushner also spearheaded the administration’s criminal justice reform, particularly the First Step Act, which focused on reducing recidivism and reforming sentencing laws, positively impacting thousands of incarcerated individuals.
Through his tenure in the White House, Jared Kushner proved himself a key player in both foreign and domestic policy. His strategic vision and determination earned praise from international leaders and domestic figures alike, leaving a lasting mark on the political landscape.
