Whiskey and Heroes: Raising a Glass to the Jack Daniel's and Moore County Metro Fire Department

Protecting a legacy as rich as Jack Daniel’s takes more than skill—it takes a fire brigade born from the same passion as the whiskey itself.

Jack Daniel's Fire Department

Jack Daniel’s and fire departments go together like whiskey and good company—essential, appreciated, and always there when you need them. With all that prized Tennessee whiskey resting in barrels, the distillery wasn’t about to leave safety to chance, so they did what any whiskey-lover would do—they built their own fire brigade. And who better to guard the aging treasure than the ones who help create it? Think of it like having the key to the vault while keeping a watchful eye on the gold inside. Except in this case, the gold is flammable and could turn the town into a bonfire!

Luckily, these volunteer firefighters aren’t just protecting history; they’re part of it. As committed to their craft as they are to protecting their town, the Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade takes pride in making sure Lynchburg’s whiskey (and spirit) stays safe. And Jack Daniel’s hasn’t stopped there. They’ve extended their support to local fire stations with resources, training, and, on occasion, even new gear. It’s teamwork at its finest—and let’s be honest, no one’s willing to let a world without Jack Daniel’s even be an option.

This spirit of community safety extends to a close collaboration with the Moore County Metro Fire Department. The fire department plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of Lynchburg and the surrounding area, including the Jack Daniel’s Distillery itself. While Jack Daniel’s has its own dedicated fire brigade, the partnership with Moore County’s fire team strengthens overall fire preparedness. Together, they share resources, training, and support, ensuring that both the town’s iconic whiskey and its residents remain safe. This longstanding collaboration reflects Jack Daniel’s deep-rooted commitment to its local community, where safeguarding history and fostering resilience go hand in hand.

Jack Daniel’s commitment to community safety extends far beyond the distillery walls. Just as their fire brigade safeguards the whiskey that defines Lynchburg’s identity, Jack Daniel’s has a deep-rooted tradition of protecting and honoring those who serve others. This dedication became even more profound in the aftermath of September 11, when the brand’s focus on safety and resilience grew into a broader mission to support first responders nationwide. Much like their fire brigade guards the heart of the distillery, Jack Daniel’s extended its care to the heroes of 9/11, ensuring that both their community and the nation’s bravest are never forgotten.

In a heartfelt gesture, Jack Daniel’s released special, limited-edition bottles of their whiskey to raise funds for the families of 9/11 first responders and to provide financial support where it was most needed. But these bottles weren’t just about raising money—they were a symbol of solidarity, a way for Jack Daniel’s and its loyal community to give back to those who had given so much. Every drop of whiskey in those bottles was a reminder of resilience, unity, and the power of coming together in the face of tragedy.

Jack Daniel’s didn’t stop there. Through events and partnerships with local and national organizations, they worked to keep the memory of the fallen alive. Their response to 9/11 reflected not just a company’s support for a cause but a deep emotional connection to the idea of service and sacrifice. For Jack Daniel’s, honoring the heroes of 9/11 was more than a gesture—it was a reflection of who they are, standing for unity, compassion, and the enduring strength of the American spirit.

20 Year Anniversary of September 11

In 2021, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of September 11, Jack Daniel’s participated in a 5K event that honored the first responders, military personnel, and victims of the tragic attacks. The event, held in Lynchburg, Tennessee, was part of the brand's ongoing commitment to supporting community resilience and unity. Jack Daniel's has long supported veterans and first responders, and this 5K served as a symbol of remembrance and solidarity, drawing participants from across the region to pay tribute to the heroes of 9/11 while reinforcing the values of courage and strength central to the Jack Daniel's legacy.

The first coin in the series is the Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade Edition, showcasing the iconic Maltese cross—a symbol historically tied to firefighting. Encased in this cross is the Old No. 7 logo, further embedding the deep connection between the distillery and the local fire brigade. The raised silver text around the black background proudly reads "Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade," a nod to the brave men and women who ensure that Lynchburg’s iconic distillery remains safe from the ever-present threat of fire. This version of the coin is a salute to the volunteers who protect both the community and the legacy of Jack Daniel’s.

This coin’s reverse side bears the department’s Maltese cross logo, featuring firefighting symbols like ladders, axes, and a firefighter’s helmet—highlighting the tools of their trade. The motto, "To Protect and Save Lives," encircles the cross, paying tribute to their unwavering commitment since their founding in 1963.
