Navy RDML Lex Walker Forged By Sea Challenge Coin

At Challenge Design, every project tells a story, and some stories leave an indelible mark. Designing a challenge coin for Rear Admiral Lex Walker was one of those moments. It wasn’t just about designing a coin; it was about encapsulating the spirit of the Navy and honoring the leadership of the Rear Admiral and the incredible sailors of Carrier Strike Group Ten. The process was personal to us, as we aimed to create something remarkable.

Forged by Sea

The essence of our design for Rear Admiral Lex Walker was deeply rooted in the Navy’s motto, “Forged by Sea.” This powerful phrase perfectly captures the heart of the Navy and all it stands for—strength, endurance, and a proud heritage shaped by the waves. This motto speaks to every sailor’s journey, from the first day in service to the missions and miles navigated around the globe. It reminds us of the Navy’s powerful role on the water, securing freedom and fostering resilience, all backed by the unbreakable spirit of those who serve.

Navy Carrier Strike Groups

The Navy’s commitment to strength, endurance, and heritage is exemplified in its Carrier Strike Groups (CSGs). They are the backbone of the Navy’s global reach and combat readiness. These powerful fleets are made up of aircraft carriers, guided-missile destroyers, cruisers, submarines, and supply ships that operate as a single, cohesive force. Together, they provide a versatile and adaptable response to crises, protecting interests at sea, projecting power, and ensuring freedom of navigation. Every CSG is a testament to Navy coordination, power, and the dedication of its sailors.

Carrier Strike Group 10

Among these impressive formations, Carrier Strike Group 10 stands out as model of excellence. It is one of the Navy’s elite formations, led by dedicated sailors who work tirelessly to support missions worldwide. With an impressive lineup of ships and personnel, CSG 10 strengthens U.S. maritime interests while keeping sea lanes safe and secure.

Rear Admiral Lower Half

Leadership plays a pivotal role in the success of Carrier Strike Groups. The rank of Rear Admiral Lower Half (RDML) oversees complex operations and guides the strategic direction of Navy personnel and missions with forward-thinking vision. With only about 150 sailors holding a Rear Admiral rank at any time, its among the highest-ranking officer position in the Navy. RDML's play a critical role in shaping Navy capabilities and inspiring the next generation of sailors.

Rear Admiral Alexis T. Walker, Commander of Carrier Strike Group TEN, has built an impressive naval career rooted in leadership, service, and expertise. A Bronx native, Walker began his journey through the BOOST program in 1989, commissioning via NROTC in 1994 after earning a degree in Broadcast Communications from Jacksonville University. Over his career, he has commanded at sea aboard vessels such as USS Stockdale and Destroyer Squadron 7, while excelling in shore assignments, including roles in congressional affairs and as a senior military assistant. His academic credentials, including advanced degrees in organizational management and national security, further underscore his strategic acumen. Walker’s leadership continues to shape the Navy’s future through his current command.

This custom square-shaped coin, plated in gold, was designed to stand out and reflect the resilience of those who serve.

On the reverse, a deep navy blue backdrop holds a central red-and-white-striped circle with a Roman “X” crossed with a gold eel, paying tribute to the unity and strength within Carrier Strike Group Ten. Surrounding this symbol, we included the words “Carrier Strike Group Ten,” alongside decorative Delta triangles and stars, lending a timeless elegance and strength to the design.
