Coyote Battery Battalion Army Military Challenge Coin

The Coyote Battery of the 1st Battalion, 163rd Field Artillery Regiment is a distinguished unit within the Army National Guard. The 1-163rd Field Artillery Regiment is part of the larger artillery force responsible for providing crucial fire support to maneuver units on the battlefield. As an artillery battery, the Coyote Battery is equipped with advanced artillery systems such as howitzers, which are capable of delivering precise and powerful indirect fire to support infantry and armored units.

The primary mission of the Coyote Battery is to deliver accurate and timely artillery fire to disrupt, neutralize, or destroy enemy forces and fortifications. This mission requires a high degree of technical proficiency and coordination, as artillery operations involve the careful calculation of trajectories and the precise timing of fire missions. The soldiers of the Coyote Battery are highly trained in these skills, ensuring they can provide effective support in a variety of combat scenarios.

In addition to their fire support role, units like the Coyote Battery often participate in domestic missions, including disaster response and community support. This dual capability underscores the versatility and importance of National Guard artillery units in both wartime and peacetime operations. The Coyote Battery of the 1-163rd Field Artillery Regiment exemplifies the dedication, professionalism, and readiness that are hallmarks of the Army National Guard.

Challenge Design was honored to be contracted to create a Army Challenge Coin for the Coyote Battery, 1st Battalion, 163rd Field Artillery. The design features a circular coin with cannons extending outward, symbolizing the unit's artillery prowess. At the center of the obverse side is a detailed depiction of a coyote, a nod to the battery's nickname. The top of the coin reads "Coyote Battery 1-163rd Field Artillery," while the bottom prominently displays the motto "If it flies, it dies." This phrase, often associated with air defense artillery units, highlights the battery’s critical role in neutralizing aerial threats and underscores their readiness to protect ground forces from incoming projectiles.
