At Challenge Design, we believe every challenge coin we create is more than just an coin; it’s a tribute to remarkable lives and legacies. So, when we had the honor of designing a coin for Brigadier General Ty Neuman, we knew we were capturing a piece of U.S. Air Force history. General Neuman’s career is the embodiment of the Air Force’s core values—integrity, excellence, and service—and we were thrilled to design a coin that would reflect his dedication, leadership, and the profound respect he has earned throughout his service. This coin needed to capture not just the achievements of an airman but the very soul of the Air Force.
The U.S. Air Force has a legacy that commands respect, even for those who’ve just heard of it. It’s not just about the planes in the sky; it’s about the dedication of airmen and women who ensure that airpower stays at the forefront of national defense. From humanitarian missions to combat operations, the Air Force plays a pivotal role in global security. What’s particularly striking is the pride and precision ingrained in every operation, making the Air Force not only a protector of the skies but a symbol of American ingenuity and strength.
Working on projects for the Air Force is always particularly fun because they’re at the cutting edge of technology, utilizing state-of-the-art aircraft, satellites, and cyber capabilities. Plus, we can’t help but love Air Force Blue—it pops beautifully on a coin, giving it a sharp and bold look that’s unmistakably Air Force.
Beyond missions and technology, the U.S. Air Force is guided by a unique code of values—principles that inform every decision, every mission, and every accomplishment. The founding principles of the U.S. Air Force—Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do—are more than just mottos; they’re a way of life. These core values drive airmen and women to embody professionalism and dedication in everything they do. When we incorporate these principles into a challenge coin design, they add a layer of meaning that goes beyond aesthetics. They reflect the heart and soul of the Air Force, making each coin a tribute to these timeless values.
Air Force Brigadier General flags, distinguished by their single star, carry deep symbolism within the branch. These flags represent leadership and command authority, and the simplicity of one star reflects the precision and directness that define the Air Force itself. Designing challenge coins that honor such symbols is always an exciting task—these flags capture the history and rank in a way that speaks to the Air Force's organizational pride.
We love to including favorite quotes on challenge coins. They bring personality and timeless wisdom to the design, making each coin even more special to the recipient. One quote that left a memorable impact was from Theodore Roosevelt: "The credit goes to the man in the arena." It’s powerful, a nod to bravery and effort, and including it on a coin makes the piece resonate deeply with those who know what it means to put everything on the line. These types of quotes bring history, bravery, and experience to life on each design, adding a touch of inspiration to anyone who receives it.
